A Christmas nativity scene with hand-carved wooden figures including Mary, Joseph, an angel, and animals, carved in a Dehradun workshop. The figures spend the season being held, moved, and placed — children handle them throughout Advent. The carved details needed an oil that would seal the wood without filling the carving lines, food-safe in case a child mouths a figure. LEINOS Interior Hardwax Oil 290 was applied with a cloth pad in two thin coats.
Carved details (faces, hands, garment folds) took oil unevenly — the team used a fine 4mm brush to flush oil out of pooling spots in the deep carving lines before each tack-free interval. Two coats applied with 16-hour cure between.
