Handcrafted wooden cutting board from a Jaipur workshop with engraved 'kitchen' motif — finished with LEINOS Countertop Oil 280.

Context

The brief, and the surface.

A small wooden cutting board with a side handle and the word 'kitchen' engraved into the face, hand-built in a Jaipur workshop. The board sees daily food contact — meal-prep, washing, drying — so it needed an oil that was food-safe (saliva and sweat resistant per DIN 53160), water-resistant without filming, and that would not obscure the engraved letters. LEINOS Countertop Oil 280 was applied with a cloth pad in three thin coats.

The team did three coats rather than two for a cutting board — repeated washing pulls oil out of the surface gradually, so an extra reserve in the wood is useful. Each coat was wiped back with a clean cloth 30 minutes after application to keep oil from pooling in the engraved letters.

Conditions on Site

Surface
Interior handcrafted wooden cutting board — engraved face, daily food-prep contact
Climate & Exposure
Rajasthan desert indoor — climate-controlled, low humidity
Limitations
  • Three-coat build (not two) — reserves oil against the washing pull on a daily-use board
  • Wipe-back 30 minutes after each coat — prevents oil pooling in the engraved letters

Gallery

More from the site.

  • Engraved 'kitchen' lettering close-up — crisp under the food-safe oil, no pooling in the letter recesses.
  • Board face with visible wood grain reading through the smooth satin oil finish.
  • Side handle profile — full coverage across the handle cut-out and the board's end-grain edge.
  • Top-down view showing the board's full profile and engraved motif positioning.
  • Surface texture under direct light — semi-matte sheen without slick film.
  • End-grain detail at the cut-out handle — oil saturation even with the face grain.
  • Board in meal-prep context — wipe-clean profile after first food-prep use.

Outcome

The result on site.

Handcrafted wooden cutting board in Jaipur — LEINOS Countertop Oil 280 three-coat build delivers a food-safe DIN 53160 surface that wipes clean after meal-prep while preserving the engraved 'kitchen' motif.

The board shows a smooth, even satin finish with warm natural tones and clearly visible grain. The engraved 'kitchen' lettering remains crisp under the oil; the surface wipes clean after meal-prep without leaving residue.

Results vary by surface condition, climate exposure, application method, and ongoing maintenance.
