OUTDOOR WOOD CARE · ART. 940
LEINOS 940 is a water-based cleaner for weathered garden furniture and decking, hardwood or softwood. Oxalic acid and coconut-oil surfactants lift the silver-grey; a scrub and a rinse carry it away. Then the wood takes a fresh coat of Teak Oil 223 or Terrace Wood Oil 236. Made in Germany.
Mechanism & Use
Greyed wood has not lost its strength; it has lost its colour. 940 takes the grey away so the oil can go into sound, clean wood.
The fluid is brushed on undiluted and thin, about 100–125 ml per m², and left for 15 minutes, up to an hour on heavy greying. It has to stay moist the whole time, so it goes on in the shade, never in direct sun.
Oxalic acid brightens the weathered surface; surfactants from coconut fatty acid loosen the dirt. Methyl cellulose thickens it so it stays on the wood. As an InVeNa member LEINOS publishes all five ingredients.
A root brush and plenty of water carry the grey off, and a thorough rinse neutralises the surface. The wood then dries for 1–2 days. It comes out rough and pale, which is exactly what it should look like at this stage.
940 cleans and does not protect. A light sand and a coat of Teak Oil 223 or Terrace Wood Oil 236 bring the warm colour back. Reddish and brownish shades of 236 add UV protection that holds the next greying back.
Where It Lives
Teak garden furniture
Benches, tables and chairs that have gone silver after a few monsoons.
Softwood garden furniture
Pine and other softwood sets. The fluid works on soft woods as well as hard.
Decking and terrace boards
Greyed boards before they are re-oiled with 236, or 223 on teak.
Pool-side loungers and benches
Wood that sees sun and water every day and greys fastest.
Verandah and balcony wood
Railings, steps and seating with no intact varnish or paint on them.
Before the first LEINOS oil
A weathered set starts clean, so the first coat goes into sound wood.
Disclosure · Origin
A cleaner does not collect coating certificates. What it can show is what is in it, and where it is made.
Ingredient disclosure
Every ingredient is published: water, oxalic acid, coconut oil surfactants, methyl cellulose and a vegetable-based emulsifier.
Origin
Made in Germany for LEINOS Naturfarben, to the same formulation sold in Germany.
Anti-Greying Fluid is not classified as hazardous, but it is an acid with a pH of 2.2. Wear safety goggles and nitrile gloves, keep it out of reach of children, and do not let it run into drains or waterways. The TDS is downloadable; the safety data sheet is issued on request — use Talk to LEINOS above.

Work in the shade, never in direct sun, or the fluid dries before it has done its job. On hot days, wet the wood lightly first.

Shake the container briefly before use. Put on safety goggles and nitrile gloves.

Brush it on undiluted and thin with a brush or cloth, about 100–125 ml per m². Leave it for 15 minutes, up to 1 hour on heavy greying, and keep the wood moist.

Scrub the surface thoroughly with a root brush and plenty of water.

Rinse thoroughly with water to neutralise the surface and carry the dirt away. Let the wood dry for 1–2 days. Rough and pale is normal at this stage.

Sand lightly, then oil the wood with Teak Oil 223 or Terrace Wood Oil 236. The warm colour comes back with the oil.

System & Substrates
Anti-Greying Fluid is the first stage of an outdoor renewal. The oil that follows is what protects the wood.
The Renewal System
940 clears the grey. Teak Oil 223 re-oils teak and tropical hardwood; Terrace Wood Oil 236 re-oils any exterior timber.

Full calculatorFull Declaration
Every ingredient declared on the label. The Trust Hub explains what each one does and the standards behind it.
Water
The carrier. The fluid is water-based, with a VOC content of 0.1 g/l.
Oxalic acid
The active ingredient that brightens greyed wood. It is why the fluid is acidic (pH 2.2) and why the surface is rinsed to neutralise it.
Coconut oil surfactants
Washing agents made from coconut fatty acid. They loosen the dirt so the scrub and rinse can carry it off.
Methyl cellulose
A cellulose thickener that keeps the fluid on the wood instead of running off vertical surfaces.
Vegetable-based emulsifier
Keeps the fluid evenly mixed. Shake briefly before use.
