Solid-Wood Trestle Table in Walnut, Gurgaon

Gurgaon, HaryanaReel · 0:26

A solid-wood trestle table — a thick plank top on twin sculpted pedestal legs — hand-finished by its maker in LEINOS Premium Wood Varnish 260, shade Walnut. An open-pore, oil-based exterior varnish for timber that has to live outdoors: UV- and water-resistant, with no film to peel or crack.

The Brief

The brief, and the surface.

Surface
Solid-wood trestle table — a thick plank top with live edges and knots on twin sculpted pedestal legs joined by a stretcher
Climate & Exposure
Exterior use — finished outdoors in Gurgaon (Haryana, North India); 260 is rated for weather-exposed timber through hot summers and the monsoon
On-site Notes
  • Open-pore oil-based varnish, not a film former — the finish breathes, so it won't crack or peel the way a film would outdoors
  • Brushed along the grain in the Walnut shade — deepens the tone while keeping grain, knots and live edges visible

A heavy solid-wood trestle table, hand-built and finished outdoors on a stone patio in Gurgaon. The maker chose LEINOS Premium Wood Varnish 260 in the Walnut shade — an open-pore, natural oil-based varnish (linseed, tung and castor oils) made for exterior timber. Brushed along the grain, it deepens the bare wood to a warm walnut tone and leaves a breathable, water-repellent finish suited to furniture that stays outside. This is a finishing showcase filmed by LEINOS — it follows the varnish going onto the raw slab and the grain coming up under the Walnut tone, rather than documenting a full client site.

Reaching for an exterior varnish on a furniture piece is a deliberate call. A film-forming varnish would look glassy and, left outdoors, eventually crack and peel at the edges; 260 is open-pore, so it sits in the wood rather than on it — water beads off while the timber still breathes, and when the surface dulls it can be refreshed with another coat instead of being stripped back. On a thick slab with live edges and knots, that keeps the grain and character visible rather than sealed under a plastic-looking film.

Outcome

The result on site.

One open-pore exterior varnish — Wood Varnish 260 in Walnut — carries the whole table: a warm tone, visible grain, and no film to peel or crack outdoors.

The raw slab comes up to a warm, even Walnut tone with the grain and knots still reading clearly. The finish is water-repellent and UV-resistant, so the table can live outdoors, and because it is open-pore it can be re-oiled in place rather than stripped when it eventually dulls.

Results vary by surface condition, climate exposure, application method, and ongoing maintenance.
