Interior staircase in Coimbatore — oak treads stained with LEINOS Pigment 668 and sealed with Hardwax Oil 290, set against dark navy steel risers.

Context

The brief, and the surface.

Solid oak stair treads set against dark navy steel risers, with matching oak hardwood floor at the upper landing. The treads needed a finish that would deepen the oak tone toward brown while remaining open-pore for foot traffic. LEINOS Pigment Concentrate 668 was brushed into the bare oak, then sealed with two coats of Interior Hardwax Oil 290.

Pigment 668 was wiped on with a cloth pad rather than brushed — it controls how much colour the open oak grain takes up. Hardwax Oil 290 followed 24 hours after pigment cure, with the second coat applied 16 hours later to build foot-traffic body without filming over the steel risers below.

Conditions on Site

Surface
Interior solid oak stair treads, dark navy steel risers, matching oak hardwood floor
Climate & Exposure
South Indian inland indoor — climate-controlled, seasonal humidity
Limitations
  • Pigment 668 wiped on, not brushed — controls colour uptake on open oak grain
  • Steel riser adjacency — no oil bleed onto the metal, clean up any drip during cure

Gallery

More from the site.

  • Detail of an oak tread above its steel riser — sharp tonal contrast, no oil bleed onto the metal surface.
  • Wide view of the staircase + matching oak floor at the landing — single warm-brown register across the tread and floor planes.

Outcome

The result on site.

Oak stair treads with dark steel risers in Coimbatore — LEINOS Pigment 668 + Hardwax Oil 290 deliver a warm-brown contrast against the steel without any bleed onto the metal.

The oak treads display a rich warm brown tone contrasting elegantly with the dark steel structure and matching the hardwood floor at the landing. No oil bleed onto the steel; the riser-tread joint reads sharp under the stair window light.

Results vary by surface condition, climate exposure, application method, and ongoing maintenance.
