Colour Range

Two Earth Colours

Two matt, opaque colours coloured with iron oxide: a deep Swedish Red and a warm Corn Yellow.

057

Swedish Red

014

Corn Yellow

These are opaque, matt cover colours. The dried colour differs from the fresh paint in the container, and batches can vary, so mix containers of the same colour together and brush a test patch before the full job. Screen chips approximate the real paint.

Need another colour?

The oil-based Weatherproof Paint 850 comes in the same two colours and seven more, with a silk-gloss finish over the 150 primer.

Mechanism & Use

How LEINOS 855 weatherproof paint works.

A solvent-free paint for rough timber that should look painted, not coated: matt, breathable and simple to renew.

01

Linseed oil in water

Linseed oil is carried in water with rye flour, bentonite and potassium oleate. There is no solvent: VOC content is 1 g/l, and brushes wash out with water.

02

Earth colour that covers

Iron oxide pigments and ferrous sulphate colour the paint, in Swedish Red or Corn Yellow. It hides the wood well, including rough-sawn boards.

03

Matt and open to vapour

The coat dries to a flat matt and lets water vapour pass, so moisture in the timber can dry out through the paint. A film protection guards it against fungal attack.

04

Easy to renovate

When the colour needs refreshing, the surface is brushed down and painted again. The paint is made for untreated timber, so it goes on bare wood rather than over an old varnish or film paint.

855 is not classified as hazardous. It contains benzisothiazolinone, which may cause allergic reactions, and a film biocide against fungal attack, so it is an exterior paint, not a finish for toys or furniture. Keep it out of drains. Step by Step

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the wood. It must be dry, sound, clean and free of grease, resin and dust. Brush out untreated, rough-sawn boards beforehand.

  2. Stir the paint carefully before use. It is ready to use. Mix containers of the same colour together if they come from different batches.

  3. Paint a test patch and let it dry. The dried colour differs from the wet paint in the tin.

  4. Brush the paint on at air and surface temperatures above 10 °C, about 55–85 ml per m² (127–196 sq ft per litre), a little more on rough-sawn wood. Apply sparingly. Thin with up to 20 % water if needed.

  5. Recoat after about 24 hours (dust-dry after about 2), until the colour covers evenly.

Composition

Every ingredient declared on the label. The Trust Hub explains what each one does and the standards behind it.

  • Water and linseed oil

Water is the carrier; linseed oil is the drying oil in the binder. No solvent: VOC content is 1 g/l.

  • Rye flour, bentonite and potassium oleate

Rye flour and bentonite clay give the paint its body; potassium oleate, a soap, holds the mix together.

  • Iron oxide pigments and ferrous sulphate

The iron compounds that give 855 its two earth colours, Swedish Red and Corn Yellow.

  • Drying agents and film protection

Drying agents help the linseed oil cure. Iodopropynyl butyl carbamate protects the film against fungal attack.
