Mechanism & Use

How 600 wax glaze works.

A water-based carnauba-wax emulsion that glazes interior wood with translucent, tintable colour — and stays breathable.

01

Water carries the wax

A water-borne emulsion lays down thin and even — low odour, touch-dry in 1–2 hours.

02

Wax glazes the surface

Carnauba and micro wax coalesce into a thin satin film you can polish to a silky sheen.

03

Translucent and open-pore

The grain reads through the colour, and the wood keeps exchanging moisture vapour.

04

Near-zero VOC (1 g/l)

EU Directive 2004/42/EC category “a” — far under the 30 g/l limit, fit for occupied rooms.

Unlike solvent finishes, 600 is water-based and near-zero VOC, so it can be applied in occupied rooms with normal ventilation. A worn or dulled glaze refreshes with a thin re-coat and a polish — no stripping, no sanding seam. Full ingredient disclosure and the SDS are available on request.

Step by Step

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the wood — sand along the grain with 100–180 grit to the absorbency you want (finer grit for less penetration). The surface must be dry, firm, clean, grease- and dust-free. Room and surface temperature above 15°C.

  2. Tint and stir — stir the glaze thoroughly; wax and pigment settle in storage. For colour, add up to 20% LEINOS Pigment Concentrate 668 to the colourless base and mix until even, or use the ready-mix white.

Pouring pigment concentrate into a pail of colourless wax glaze and stirring to a warm tint
  3. Apply the first coat — brush, roll or sponge a thin, even layer in the direction of the grain. Keep it thin: depth of colour builds with coats and pigment, not film thickness.

  4. Polish while workable — wipe along the grain with a soft cotton cloth to even the film and raise a silky satin sheen. 600 is polishable; a buffed surface reads richer than a flooded one.

Hands buffing a freshly wax-glazed wood surface with a folded cotton cloth to a satin sheen
  5. Apply the second coat — once touch-dry (about 1–2 hours) and after roughly a day to full dry, lay a second thin coat for even colour. Always run a trial area with a colour match first: the dried tone differs from the wet glaze in the can.

  6. Clean up with water — wash brushes and tools with water and LEINOS Vegetable Soap 930; no solvent, no thinner. Store the can cool (5–35°C), dry, sealed and frost-free, and use within about 12 months.

System & Substrates

Two coats of 600, tinted to your colour. That’s the finish.

No primer, no separate topcoat — tint with 668, clean with 930. Higher-wear floors take 290 instead.

Substrate Fit

600 works on — and what it doesn’t.

Suitable

Recommended substrates

  • Interior wooden ceilings and slatted panelling
  • Wall panelling and feature cladding
  • Solid-wood furniture and cabinetry
  • Wooden shelving and millwork
  • Absorbent, bare interior softwood and hardwood
  • Wood-based panels (MDF, plywood) — interior, absorbent

Honest Limits

Where to use a different product

  • Exterior wood — facades, cladding, fences, garden furniture. For outdoor wood use LEINOS 236 Terrace Wood Oil
  • High-traffic or commercial floors — for heavy footfall use LEINOS 290 Interior Hardwax Oil
  • Previously lacquered, painted or PU-sealed surfaces — the wood must stay absorbent.
  • Permanently wet areas and surfaces with standing water.

Use With Care

Working safely with 600

  • Contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one — may cause allergic reactions.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Avoid release to the environment.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying.

Full Declaration

Composition

Every ingredient declared on the label. The Trust Hub explains what each one does and the standards behind it.

  • Carnauba & micro wax

Carnauba (Brazilian palm, the hardest natural wax) and micro wax form the protective body. As the water evaporates they coalesce into a thin, polishable satin film that repels water yet stays open-pored.

  • Water carrier

Water is the carrier instead of a solvent — the reason 600 has almost no odour, cleans up with water, and tests at just 1 g/l VOC. It evaporates as the wax sets.

  • Soy lecithin

A plant-derived phospholipid emulsifier that disperses the wax evenly through the water phase, so the glaze spreads smooth and dries without streaks.

  • Methylcellulose

A plant-cellulose thickener that gives the glaze its brushable body and open time, then leaves the film vapour-permeable so the wood keeps breathing.

  • Mineral pigments

Light-stable earth and mineral pigments give the tinted and ready-white variants their colour — or add your own tone by mixing in up to 20% Pigment Concentrate 668.
